In any case, the Manichean division between virtuous and lax countries makes no sense at all. Today, in Europe, nobody is innocent: Greece is not, and neither is Germany. All have violated the text and, most of all, the spirit of the Maastricht treaty, of the conditions and the inspiration therein, and the Commission’s supervision has been scarce, pointed in the wrong direction, and rather unaware.
